If they both reference the same underlying data maybe just leave rwhois
there but make it intentionally slower over time...

That seems awfully passive aggressive. For domains, ICANN set a timeline and after a little bit of grumbling, we adapted. I did it, it wasn't hard. While I was at it I switched the IP and ASN lookups to RDAP too.

If they somehow don't reference the same underlying data, well, fix that
first by maybe just making rwhois a proxy to rdap?

It occurs to me that if people REALLY REALLY want WHOIS, it would not be terribly hard to write a proxy that puts a WHOIS front end on RDAP servers.

I get a 50% commission on every RDAP sale!  Wow!

Too bad it's free.  But it really does work better than WHOIS.
